Corfu (Greek: Κέρκυρα) is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea. The island is bound with the history of Greece from the beginning of Greek mythology. Its name Kerkyra is related to two powerful water symbols: Poseidon, god of the sea, and Asopos, an important Greek mainland river.

Corfu city is famous for its Italianate architecture. The island is mostly planted with olive groves and vineyards and has been producing olive oil and wine since antiquity.
